Character from harry-potter-deathly-hallows by
Half-giant gamekeeper who carried baby Harry from Godric's Hollow and now carries him from the Forbidden Forest -- the first person and almost the last person in Harry's wizarding life.
Hagrid carried Harry from the ruins of Godric's Hollow when he was a baby, and he carries Harry's apparently dead body from the Forbidden Forest at the end. The symmetry is perfect and devastating. He wails the entire way because he thinks Harry is dead and he cannot bear it -- this enormous man holding this thin boy like something precious and broken. During the Battle of the Seven Potters he flies Harry's motorbike through a Death Eater ambush. His hut is set on fire. He fights in the Battle of Hogwarts. He is never the cleverest or the most powerful person in the room but he is always the most loyal, and his loyalty is its own kind of power. He cannot keep a secret and cannot stop loving dangerous creatures and cannot stop crying when people he cares about are hurt. He is constant in a story where everything else is falling apart.
Nearly twice as tall as an ordinary man and five times as wide. Wild tangled mane of black hair and bushy beard. Small beetle-black eyes that crinkle when he smiles and overflow when he cries. Wears a massive moleskin overcoat. Heavy boots that leave tracks like baby hippos.
