What They Know

• He orchestrated his own death -- ordering Snape to kill him to spare Draco and to ensure the Elder Wand's power would die with him (a plan that failed because Draco disarmed him first)
• He possessed all three Deathly Hallows at different times: the Elder Wand (won from Grindelwald), the Resurrection Stone (found in the Gaunt ring), and the Invisibility Cloak (borrowed from James Potter)
• His right hand was cursed black when he put on the Horcrux ring, recognizing the Resurrection Stone and desperately hoping to see his dead sister Ariana -- Snape contained the curse but it gave him only a year to live
• As a teenager, he befriended Gellert Grindelwald and together they planned wizard dominion over Muggles 'for the greater good' until a three-way duel with Aberforth killed Ariana
• He left Harry the first Snitch he ever caught, which contained the Resurrection Stone, inscribed 'I open at the close' -- meaning it would open when Harry accepted his own death
• He knew Harry was an unintended Horcrux and that Harry would need to die to make Voldemort mortal -- he planned Harry's path to that realization across seven years
