The aggressively normal Dursley house where Harry spends another miserable summer -- this time with bars on his window, a padlocked owl cage, and a house-elf dropping pudding on dinner guests.
Number 4, Privet Drive is worse than ever this summer. Harry's letters from friends have been intercepted by Dobby. Vernon has an important dinner party with the Masons that goes catastrophically wrong when Dobby drops a hovering pudding on Mrs Mason's head. The resulting Ministry owl -- a warning for underage magic Harry didn't perform -- gives Vernon the excuse he needs to install bars on Harry's window and treat him like a prisoner. The rescue comes at midnight: Fred, George, and Ron Weasley in the enchanted Ford Anglia, ripping the bars off the window and flying Harry to freedom. The Dursleys are left screaming into the night.
A neat, unremarkable detached house on a street of identical houses. Trimmed lawn, clean windows, polished car. Harry's bedroom window now has iron bars. A cat flap on the bedroom door for meal trays. The cupboard under the stairs where Harry used to sleep is behind him, but his new room is barely better.
