A vast, ancient, dangerous woodland on the Hogwarts grounds where Hagrid tells Harry and Ron to follow the spiders -- a trail that leads to Aragog's hollow and a colony of car-sized Acromantulas.
The Forbidden Forest is forbidden for excellent reasons. This year Harry and Ron follow a trail of spiders into its depths on Hagrid's cryptic instruction and find Aragog -- a blind, ancient Acromantula the size of a small elephant -- who confirms that Hagrid is innocent, that the monster in the Chamber is not a spider, and that Hagrid raised him from an egg. Then Aragog informs them that his children are hungry and he cannot prevent them from eating Harry and Ron. They escape only because Arthur Weasley's enchanted Ford Anglia, which has been living wild in the forest since crashing into the Whomping Willow, bursts through the trees and rescues them.
Dense, towering trees so old their canopy blocks most sunlight. The undergrowth is thick with ferns and brambles. At night the forest is impenetrable black, punctuated by the gleam of eyes. The deeper you go, the darker it gets.
