Dumbledore's office is where several crucial scenes play out this year. Harry visits and witnesses Fawkes on a Burning Day -- the phoenix bursting into flames and being reborn as a chick from the ashes, which Harry mistakes for a disaster. The Sorting Hat sits on its shelf, and Harry asks it whether it put him in the right house. After the Chamber, Harry meets Dumbledore here and confesses his fear that the Hat should have put him in Slytherin. Dumbledore's response is definitive: 'It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.' It is also here that Harry confronts Lucius Malfoy and tricks him into freeing Dobby.
