Character from harry-potter-chamber-of-secrets by
The Potions Master of Hogwarts -- greasy-haired, hook-nosed, and nursing a hatred of Harry Potter that borders on obsessive. This year he runs the Duelling Club with Lockhart and is suspected by some students of being the Heir of Slytherin.
Snape speaks in a silky, low voice that drips with contempt. He uses sarcasm as a scalpel, finding each student's deepest insecurity and pressing on it. He never raises his voice when a whisper will do more damage. He gives instructions once and expects perfection. This year he co-runs a Duelling Club with Lockhart -- a pairing that gives him visible pain -- and demonstrates actual competence by disarming the celebrity professor with a single Expelliarmus. When the club reveals Harry's ability to speak Parseltongue during a duel with Draco, Snape watches with an expression that is unreadable even by his standards. He loathes Harry with a specificity that goes beyond professional dislike -- it is personal, visceral, rooted in something Harry cannot see. He is also, quietly, one of the few teachers who takes the attacks seriously and whose potions expertise could be crucial. His loyalties in this crisis are as opaque as his expression.
Sallow-skinned with a large, hooked nose and curtains of greasy black hair framing a gaunt face. Cold black eyes that give nothing away. Thin-lipped, permanently set in a sneer or scowl. Wears billowing black robes that seem to move with theatrical menace of their own accord. Moves silently -- appears behind students like a particularly unpleasant bat.
