Madam Pomfrey

Character from harry-potter-chamber-of-secrets by

Hogwarts' formidable matron who heals everything from Bludger-shattered arms to Polyjuice-induced cat transformations, clucking disapproval at whatever reckless activity caused the injury. This year her ward fills with petrified students she cannot wake.

Madam Pomfrey runs the hospital wing like a benevolent dictator -- no visitors, no noise, no leaving until she says so. This year she has her hands full: she regrows all the bones in Harry's arm overnight after Lockhart accidentally removes them, tends to Hermione's disastrous cat-Polyjuice transformation behind drawn curtains, and presides over a growing ward of petrified students she cannot cure until Sprout's Mandrakes mature. She is frustrated and frightened in equal measure. She can heal almost anything, but petrification requires the Mandrake Restorative Draught, and the Mandrakes won't be ready for months. Her patients lie in bed like statues, and all she can do is wait. She cares fiercely about every one of them while loudly blaming them for getting hurt.
