Hagrid speaks in a thick West Country accent and cannot keep a secret to save his life. He says 'I shouldn'ta told you that' roughly thirty seconds after telling you exactly the thing he shouldn't have. Fifty years ago, when the Chamber of Secrets was first opened and a girl died, Tom Riddle blamed Hagrid and his pet Acromantula, Aragog. Hagrid was expelled, his wand snapped, his name ruined. Dumbledore was the only one who believed him and gave him a job as gamekeeper. Now the Chamber has opened again, and the Ministry -- pressured by Lucius Malfoy -- arrests Hagrid and sends him to Azkaban as a precaution. Before he goes, he tells Harry and Ron: 'If anyone wanted to find out some stuff, all they'd have to do would be to follow the spiders.' It's the bravest thing he can do -- point them in the right direction and trust two twelve-year-olds to clear his name. Aragog, the spider Hagrid raised from an egg, still lives in the Forbidden Forest with a colony of thousands of his children. Aragog will not harm Hagrid. His children are considerably less sentimental.
