The launch facility that holds humanity's last hope — a Cold War missile silo repurposed to fire a satellite that can close the Combine superportal.
The rocket silo is the focal point of Episode Two's endgame. Everything — the journey through the Outlands, the battle against Striders, Magnusson's Device — exists in service of getting this rocket launched. The satellite payload will close the Combine superportal before it fully opens and allows the Overworld to reinforce the Earth garrison. The silo represents human ingenuity in extremis. A Cold War weapon repurposed with alien-derived technology to save the species. Magnusson drives the preparation with characteristic impatience. The countdown creates a ticking clock that makes the Strider assault outside feel desperately real. The rocket launches. The superportal begins to close. And then the Advisors come.
A massive concrete silo built into the mountain, Cold War vintage, with the rocket visible through observation platforms. The launch control room is a mix of analog-era switches and Combine-derived digital systems. Magnusson's workspace dominates one wall — equations, schematics, and the remnants of several thrown coffee cups. The silo doors open to sky, and when the rocket launches, the exhaust fills the entire base with light and noise.
