Ravenholm

Location from Half-Life 2 by Valve

We don't go to Ravenholm — a former resistance hideout shelled with headcrab canisters, now a zombie-infested nightmare with one surviving resident.

Ravenholm is what happens when the Combine decides to make an example. The town sheltered resistance members, so the Combine shelled it with headcrab canisters. Every resident who didn't escape was transformed — zombies now crowd the streets, fast zombies scramble across rooftops, and poison headcrabs nest in dark corners. The sound design tells the story. Distant moaning. The wet crunch of a zombie stumbling over debris. The skitter of headcrabs in ventilation. And cutting through it all, Father Grigori's mad laughter echoing from the rooftops as he tends his 'flock' with a shotgun. Ravenholm is Half-Life 2's horror chapter — a change of pace that reminds you what the Combine does to places that resist. The gravity gun and saw blades are your best friends here. The phrase 'we don't go to Ravenholm' is both survival advice and acknowledgment that some places are beyond saving.

Appearance

A small Eastern European mining town, once quaint, now a charnel house. Buildings lean at wrong angles, rooftops connected by improvised catwalks and zip lines. The streets are littered with abandoned cars, overturned furniture, and the shambling remains of former residents. Saw blades, gas canisters, and explosive traps are positioned throughout — Father Grigori's work. Headcrab shells — spent Combine canisters — litter the ground like discarded packaging. At night (and it always feels like night), the only light comes from burning barrels and the occasional working streetlamp.
