The coastal road between City 17 and Nova Prospekt — a crumbling highway through antlion-infested beaches and Combine checkpoints.
Highway 17 is the long road chapter — miles of coastal driving in the scout car, punctuated by Combine ambushes, antlion encounters, and increasingly desperate resistance outposts. The thumpers along the beach create a steady, industrial heartbeat that is the only thing between you and a swarm. The highway tells the story of the occupation through environmental detail. Abandoned cars suggest a mass exodus that was blocked. Resistance graffiti marks safe routes. Lambda symbols spray-painted on walls point to supply caches. Every outpost along the coast is undermanned and under siege, holding on because giving up means there's nowhere left to go. This stretch of road leads to Nova Prospekt, and everyone along the way knows what Nova Prospekt is. The further you drive, the grimmer the outpost commanders become.
A deteriorating coastal highway running along dramatic cliff edges above sandy beaches. Rusted guardrails, collapsed bridge sections, and abandoned vehicles mark the route. Combine thumper devices pound rhythmically along the beach, keeping antlions at bay. Resistance outposts are hidden in cliff-side buildings and lighthouse stations. The sea is grey and rough. Combine watchtowers and gunship patrol routes dot the horizon.
