The resistance's hidden research base — a repurposed hydroelectric facility where Eli Vance built a teleporter and Alyx raised a robot.
Black Mesa East feels like home in a world that has none. Eli's presence permeates every room — his optimism, his resourcefulness, his refusal to let the resistance become cold and mechanical like the enemy they fight. The lab hums with teleporter energy and the sound of Vortigaunts cooking in the kitchen. The base exists because the Combine never found it — hidden by geography, protected by Dog's patrols, and connected to City 17 only through dangerous routes that the resistance has mapped carefully. It's where Gordon first reunites with Eli, first meets Dog, and first receives the gravity gun. Black Mesa East is destroyed when Mossman betrays its location to the Combine. The raid forces Gordon through Ravenholm and sends the resistance scrambling. Its loss is a turning point — from this moment, the resistance stops hiding and starts fighting.
A converted industrial complex built into a cliff face near a dam. The exterior is camouflaged — overgrown, weathered, deliberately unassuming. Inside, it's a functioning laboratory: teleportation equipment, weapons research, communication arrays, all powered by the dam's generators. Living quarters are spartan but warm — Eli's personal touch is everywhere, from family photos to hand-labeled equipment. A large junkyard outside serves as Dog's playground and training ground.
