Scout Car

Item from Half-Life 2 by Valve

The resistance's coastal vehicle — a rusted dune buggy with a tau cannon mounted on top, perfect for running antlion gauntlets on Highway 17.

The scout car is the Highway 17 vehicle — built for the coastal road's mix of highway driving, off-road scrambling, and Combine checkpoint breaching. The Tau Cannon mounted on top provides heavy firepower against Combine positions and can be charged for a devastating overcharged shot. The vehicle has a wonderful physicality to it. It bounces over terrain, fishtails on sand, and launches off ramps with a commitment to aerodynamics that the vehicle's designers clearly never intended. The fuel gauge and battery meter add resource management to the driving — run out in antlion territory and you're walking.

Appearance

A stripped-down, off-road buggy with oversized tires, a roll cage, and no doors. Originally a civilian vehicle, it has been modified with resistance engineering — reinforced chassis, improved suspension, and a roof-mounted Tau Cannon that fires concentrated energy beams. The paint is long gone, replaced by rust and road grime. It handles like a rally car having an existential crisis.
