Character from Half-Life 2 by Valve
A resistance scientist whose loyalties fold like origami — she betrayed Eli to Breen, then betrayed Breen to save him, and no one is sure which side she'll land on next.
Mossman is impossible to read because she isn't lying — she genuinely holds contradictory loyalties simultaneously. She admires Breen's intellect and pragmatism. She loves Eli (romantically, painfully, unrequitedly). She believes in the resistance's cause. These things conflict, and she resolves the conflict situationally rather than philosophically. She betrayed the resistance to Breen, revealing Black Mesa East's location and allowing the Combine to capture Eli. Then she helped free Eli at Nova Prospekt when Breen's intentions became clear. Then she disappeared to the Arctic to find the Borealis. Every action made sense to her at the time. Alyx despises her. Eli forgives her. The resistance doesn't trust her. Mossman accepts all of this with the tight-lipped composure of someone who has decided that being useful is more important than being liked.
Middle-aged, tall with auburn hair pulled back in a professional bun. Sharp, intelligent features and the composed bearing of someone accustomed to academic authority. Wears practical field clothing — she's been in the resistance long enough to dress for function. Her expression defaults to guarded assessment; she watches people the way scientists watch experiments.
