A memory-erasing weapon invented by McGucket to help himself forget what he saw in the interdimensional portal — later used by the Blind Eye Society to make Gravity Falls' residents forget the supernatural.
McGucket built the Memory Gun because he couldn't cope with what he'd seen looking into the interdimensional portal — something beyond ordinary human experience — and the only solution he could engineer was to stop remembering it. He used it on himself repeatedly. Each use degraded him further. By the time the series starts, he's been living in a junkyard for years. The Blind Eye Society adopted the device as their primary tool: erase every resident's memory of any supernatural encounter and Gravity Falls stays 'normal.' The intent was protective. The effect was to prevent the town from ever developing defenses against the things living in the forest. In the end, Ford uses it on Stan to stop Bill Cipher from reading Stan's mind — and Stan volunteers for this, knowing he'll lose his memories. The gun works. Bill is destroyed. Stan forgets, then slowly remembers.
A handheld device resembling a sci-fi weapon with a dial for adjusting how much memory is erased. Has a targeting mechanism and emits a visible beam. Heavy enough to require two hands. Has been carried in Dipper's backpack, Ford's study, and the Blind Eye Society's headquarters.
