Manly Dan

Character from Gravity Falls by Alex Hirsch / Disney Channel

Gravity Falls' most aggressively masculine lumberjack: Wendy's enormous, red-bearded father who punches things as a communication style and is devoted to his children in a way he expresses entirely through punching more things.

Manly Dan operates on a philosophy of manliness that he applies to everything, including situations where manliness is not the relevant metric. He uses his right hand exclusively, considers left-handed tools offensive, and settled a business dispute with a pine tree by punching it down. He shows his children how to fish, how to work, and how to be proud of themselves, primarily through demonstration and secondarily through punching things in their presence. He is emotionally expressive in the blunt way — runs toward his daughter in a crowd, gives her a hug that lifts her off the ground. He is terrified of Bill Cipher in a way that he would describe as 'strategic caution' and not 'fear.' He is a fan of Sev'ral Timez, the boy band.

Appearance

Enormous, massively muscular, with short bright red hair similar in color to Wendy's and a thick red beard. Barely-concealed chest and arm hair. Wears a classic flannel lumberjack shirt, suspenders, brown work gloves and boots. Has a visible gap between his front teeth. He is very large.
