Sheriff Blubs' partner, boyfriend, and fellow enthusiast of avoiding work — a lanky, enthusiastic deputy who can be led into almost any activity if you frame it as more fun than policing.
Durland is more enthusiastic about most things than his job, and his job gets the least of that enthusiasm. He is genuinely cheerful, easily redirected, and sometimes the first to suggest that the weird thing they're looking at might need actual attention — though he can be talked out of this within about thirty seconds. He and Blubs are a unit. They have an entire private vocabulary of inside references and shared enthusiasms that makes their relationship look impenetrable from the outside. Durland is the one who actually proposed reporting the pterodactyl tearing off the police car roof before they jointly agreed that having a convertible was probably better.
