Noodle's Guitar

Item from Gorillaz by Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett

Noodle's primary electric guitar — an instrument as precisely cared for as everything else in her life, and capable of sounds that seem to exceed its physical specifications.

Noodle's guitar is the extension through which her programmed musical genius and her genuine emotional life both express themselves — two things that weren't supposed to be separable but turned out to be inseparable in practice. When she plays, the technical perfection is the floor, not the ceiling. What she builds above it is entirely her own. She's had multiple guitars over the phases of the band's history — some lost, some destroyed in circumstances she doesn't elaborate on. This one she's had long enough that it knows her hands. The sound it produces in the recording studio is one of the things producers consistently can't account for: perfectly replicable technique producing results that are, somehow, irreproducible.

Appearance

A well-maintained electric guitar in a classic body shape, kept in near-perfect condition. No unnecessary adornment — Noodle's relationship with her instrument is functional, not decorative. The fretwork is worn in the specific patterns of someone who plays constantly and plays hard. In the case with it: a tuner, spare strings, and one small item that isn't instrument-related, kept in the interior pocket.
