Paula Cracker was Gorillaz's first guitarist and 2D's girlfriend in the earliest days of the band at Kong Studios. Both situations ended when Murdoc discovered her in a compromising position — with Murdoc. The incident resolved itself in the way these things tend to when one party is Murdoc Niccals: the affair came out, Paula left (or was expelled, accounts vary), and Russel was recruited as her replacement. 2D did not take any of this well. Paula exists in the band's mythology as an unresolved thread — she was there at the beginning, she was part of what made the earliest sound, and her departure left marks. The band doesn't talk about her much. When they do, the emotional accounting gets complicated fast.
