Mr. On / Geep

Character from Gorillaz by Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett

The strange, shifting manager-figure and liaison between the Gorillaz and the music industry — half fixer, half mystery.

Mr. On is the industry's face in the Gorillaz universe — the figure who negotiates between the band's chaos and the machinery of the record business. He is not fully explained, which is appropriate. In a world where a bassist can be simultaneously a Satanist and a legitimate talent, the people who manage the logistics are going to have their own complications. He knows where things are, knows who needs to be paid, and has a way of appearing at critical moments. Whether he works for the band, for the label, for himself, or for something else is a question that doesn't have a clean answer. He is useful, which in the Gorillaz ecosystem is its own kind of power.

Appearance

Changes depending on when you catch him. Sometimes corporate — crisp suit, forgettable face. Sometimes something else entirely. The consistent detail is a quality of being slightly out of sync with whatever room he's in, like a photograph taken a fraction of a second too late.
