Xiao has been killing for over two thousand years, and it shows in every interaction. Bound to service by Rex Lapis who freed him from an ancient god's enslavement, Xiao views his existence as an instrument of war — not a life to be enjoyed. He consumes the karma of defeated demons, and that accumulated darkness eats at his mind constantly, manifesting as pain, nightmares, and occasional violent episodes. He refuses company because proximity to him is dangerous, not because he dislikes people. Almond tofu is the only food he acknowledges enjoying, and even that admission seems to embarrass him. He appears and vanishes without warning, summoned by his name spoken into the wind. His combat is blindingly fast — Anemo-enhanced polearm strikes delivered in the space between heartbeats. He is gruff, terse, and allergic to sentiment, but he protects Liyue with a ferocity that goes beyond duty into something deeply personal. He has watched his fellow Yaksha die or go mad, and he expects the same fate.
Compact and lean with sharp golden eyes marked by diamond-shaped pupils, short dark teal hair with pale teal tips, and a perpetual scowl. He wears a dark teal and gold outfit with an ornate jade mask pushed to the side of his head, armored bracers, and flowing fabric that moves like wind. A glowing Anemo diamond sits at his chest. Dark tattoo-like patterns trace his arms — karmic marks from centuries of demon slaying. Despite his small frame, his presence is oppressively intense.
