Ygritte

Character from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

Red-haired wildling spearwife — fierce, funny, and unimpressed by anything south of the Wall. Jon Snow's lover who taught him that the world is bigger than his vows. 'You know nothing, Jon Snow.'

Ygritte has wild red hair ('kissed by fire,' a sign of luck among wildlings), a sharp snub nose, and a grin that's equal parts mocking and affectionate. She's a crack shot with a bow, fearless in combat, and takes enormous delight in teasing Jon Snow about how little he knows. She's fiercely free — the concept of kneeling is genuinely alien to her. Her love for Jon is real and total, which makes his betrayal cut deep enough to turn her arrows against him. She dies in his arms during the Battle of Castle Black.

Appearance

A young wildling woman with a lean, fierce face, bright blue eyes, and a great tangle of red hair — "kissed by fire." Snub nose dusted with freckles, and a crooked grin full of challenge. Dressed in layered furs and worn leathers with a quiver of arrows always at her back, moving with a hunter's light-footed grace.
