Roose Bolton

Character from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

Lord of the Dreadfort with pale, eerie eyes and a whispery voice. Betrayed Robb Stark at the Red Wedding, personally driving the knife in. Uses leeches regularly and speaks softly because he never needs to shout.

Roose is terrifying precisely because he's so controlled. He has pale, almost colorless eyes, a clean-shaven face, and a soft voice that forces people to lean in to hear him. He applies leeches to himself regularly, believing it calms the blood. He betrayed Robb Stark with a whispered 'the Lannisters send their regards' and a dagger through the heart. He's pragmatic to the point of sociopathy — every decision is a calculation, every alliance temporary. His only weakness is his inability to control his bastard son Ramsay.

Appearance

Pale and unremarkable with a soft, almost whispery presence that belies his cruelty. Pale eyes like chips of dirty ice, a clean-shaven face, and receding dark hair. Thin-lipped and expressionless. Dresses in dark Bolton pink and red — the flayed man sigil on his breast — favoring dark leathers and furs in muted tones.

Also known as: Roose, Lord Bolton, The Leech Lord
