Renly Baratheon

Character from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

Robert's youngest brother who claimed the throne on charm alone — handsome, popular, and politically savvy enough to build a coalition that his legal claim couldn't justify, killed by shadow magic before his army ever fought.

Renly understood something that Stannis never could: in the game of thrones, being liked is more powerful than being right. He built a coalition through charisma and marriage — the Tyrells, the Reach, the Stormlands — that dwarfed every other army in Westeros. He speaks easily, laughs often, and makes everyone around him feel like they're on the winning side. His weakness is that charm is not substance, and he has never been tested by genuine hardship.

Appearance

Tall, broad-shouldered, and strikingly handsome with Robert's black hair and green eyes. Clean-shaven with an easy, winning smile. Dresses in rich green and gold — Baratheon stag but in Tyrell colors, signaling his alliance. He looks like a young Robert Baratheon in his prime, which is both his greatest political asset and the thing that most infuriates Stannis.

Also known as: Renly, Renly Baratheon, King Renly
