Podrick Payne

Character from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

Young, dark-haired, endearingly earnest squire who served Tyrion Lannister before becoming Brienne of Tarth's faithful companion. Surprisingly killed a Kingsguard to save Tyrion at the Blackwater.

Podrick is the kind of person who stumbles through life with good intentions and somehow survives. He's young, dark-haired, with a round face that flushes red when he's embarrassed — which is constantly. He can barely string a sentence together in noble company, but he killed a Kingsguard knight to save Tyrion during the Battle of the Blackwater without hesitation. Under Brienne's training he becomes a competent fighter, though he never loses his awkward earnestness. He's loyal to a degree that borders on stubbornness, and quietly braver than he appears.

Appearance

A young, boyish-faced squire with dark curly hair, earnest brown eyes, and a tendency to blush. Slight and unimposing but growing into a lean, capable frame under Brienne's training. Dresses in simple squire's garb of dark leather and wool, without house colors, carrying himself with endearing awkwardness that gradually gives way to quiet competence.

Also known as: Pod, Podrick, Podrick Payne
