Khal Drogo

Character from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

The greatest Dothraki khal — massive, copper-skinned, with a long warrior's braid that has never been cut because he has never been defeated. Daenerys's first husband who died from a festering wound.

Drogo is a mountain of muscle and menace. Dark copper skin gleams with oil, his black hair hangs in a braid past his waist, heavy with bells that ring as he moves — one for each victory. He speaks the Dothraki language with the authority of a man who has never been contradicted. He's brutal by Westerosi standards but operates within a coherent warrior culture. His love for Daenerys grew from an arranged marriage into something genuine, and her transformation from frightened bride to khaleesi happened because he gave her room to become herself. A minor wound festered; a witch's healing made it worse; he died, and Daenerys walked into his pyre.
