Location from Futurama by Matt Groening & David X. Cohen
A planet-sized facility where all humans over 160 are sent to live out their days in isolation — a Star Wars Death Star pun that is also deeply unsettling.
The Near Death Star collects humans who reach the age of 160 via the Sunset Squad Robots and confines them in a simulated reality for the remainder of their lives. Professor Farnsworth was taken here upon reaching the age limit and had to be rescued by his crew. The name is a pun combining 'near death' with 'Death Star,' and the facility represents the show's darkest satire of how society treats its elderly.
A planet covered in metallic spikes, resembling the Death Star from Star Wars but more menacing and covered in a porcupine-like exterior. Inside, elderly humans are kept in individual pods connected to a virtual reality system.
