Parallel Universe Box

Item from Futurama by Matt Groening & David X. Cohen

A cardboard box that contains an entire parallel universe — every decision made differently, accessible by reaching inside. The Professor made it accidentally while trying not to die.

The Parallel Universe Box was accidentally created by the Professor during an experiment that nearly killed him. Each box contains an entire parallel universe where the outcome of a coin flip differs — leading to cascading differences. In Universe 1, the coin-flip outcomes were opposite, creating evil (or 'good') versions of the cast. The boxes are stored in the Professor's lab and can be used to travel between realities by climbing inside. The episode 'The Farnsworth Parabox' explored the concept, revealing that Universe 1's Farnsworth praises the Bible as 'the real good news' (suggesting the Professors' religious views were decided by a coin flip).

Appearance

An ordinary-looking cardboard box with a yellow-gold shimmer. Looking inside reveals another universe. It's stored alongside other boxes in the Professor's laboratory, each containing a different parallel reality.
