Fing-Longer

Item from Futurama by Matt Groening & David X. Cohen

A simple but revolutionary invention — a glove with one extremely long finger, allowing the wearer to point at things that are far away. The Professor's greatest practical contribution to science.

The Fing-Longer was first conceived as a hypothetical in a What-If Machine scenario when the Professor asked 'What if I invented the Fing-Longer?' It later became a real invention. Its purpose is simply to point at things that are far away — a function so basic and so useful that it borders on genius. It represents the show's ability to find comedy in the gap between the grandiose (inventing a future technology) and the mundane (wanting to poke something across the room without getting up).

Appearance

A plain white glove with one finger extended to an absurd length — about three feet long. It looks ridiculous. It is ridiculous. It is also genuinely useful, which somehow makes it more ridiculous.

Also known as: Fing-Longer, Finglonger
