eyePhone

Item from Futurama by Matt Groening & David X. Cohen

MomCorp's invasive smartphone — inserted directly into the eye, it records everything the user sees and uploads it to Twitcher. A parody of consumer tech addiction taken to its logical extreme.

The eyePhone is MomCorp's most successful consumer product — a smartphone that is surgically inserted into the user's eye. It records everything they see, connects to the social media platform Twitcher, and was part of Mom's scheme to gain complete control over the population's attention. The device is a savage parody of smartphone culture and Apple product launches, down to customers lining up for hours and the invasive nature of always-connected technology. It was the central conceit of the episode 'Attack of the Killer App.'

Appearance

A tiny device that is literally inserted into the user's eyeball. Once installed, it overlays a heads-up display on the user's vision. The installation process is deliberately disturbing — Mom's marketing makes it seem fun.
