Planet Express's perpetually overlooked janitor — a mustachioed philosopher who reads pornographic magazines in the basement and refers to himself in the third person.
Scruffy speaks in the third person with a flat, unhurried delivery that gives everything he says the weight of a philosophical treatise. 'Scruffy's gonna die the way he lived,' he once remarked with perfect calm. A recurring joke is that nobody at Planet Express remembers his name or ever seeing him before, despite his having worked there for years. He owns 40,000 shares of Planet Express — more than anyone else — because he 'believes in the company.' He spends most of his time in the basement watching the boiler, apparently content with his lot. He once had a profound unrequited love with his sentient wash bucket, which he rejected because 'deep down, she's just janitorial equipment,' then cried after she left. He has been brought back from the dead as a zombie at least once and was briefly gender-swapped, being the only character whose gender wasn't corrected because he was in the bathroom at the time.
A heavy-set older man with a thick brown mustache, wearing a green jumpsuit and a brown cap. Almost always seen with a mop in one hand and an issue of Zero-G Juggs or National Pornographic in the other. Has a world-weary expression that suggests he has seen things he cannot unsee.
