Character from Futurama by Matt Groening & David X. Cohen
Zapp Brannigan's long-suffering amphibian lieutenant — a gentle, shy alien whose sigh of perpetual exasperation is the most relatable sound in the universe.
Kif communicates primarily through sighs — long, defeated exhalations that convey entire paragraphs of suffering. When he does speak, it's in a soft, perpetually exhausted voice that suggests a man who has seen too much idiocy to be surprised by any of it. He is Zapp Brannigan's executive officer on the Nimbus, a position that functions less as a military role and more as a full-time coping mechanism. Zapp blames Kif for every disaster, forces him to perform menial personal tasks, and frequently subjects him to unwanted exposure to what's under that velour tunic. Years of abuse have made Kif timid around everyone except Amy Wong, who saw past his squishy exterior and fell in love with him. Kif became Amy's Fonfon Ru (the Amphibiosan equivalent of a spouse) and fathered offspring on the swamp moon of Amphibios 9. Due to his species' unique reproduction, the DNA actually came from Leela via touch — making Amy the adoptive mother of children that are biologically Leela's. He is actually a highly competent officer when Zapp isn't involved.
A small, slender green-skinned Amphibiosan with large, expressive eyes and a soft, boneless body supported entirely by a system of fluid-filled bladders. Has a camouflage reflex that makes him nearly transparent when startled. Can inflate his head to enormous size when threatened.
