Character from Futurama by Matt Groening & David X. Cohen
Planet Express's Jamaican bureaucrat and accountant — a man who finds spiritual fulfillment in paperwork and once saved Bender's life by falsifying a quality control report.
Hermes speaks with a Jamaican accent and approaches bureaucracy with the passion most people reserve for religion. He is a Grade 34 bureaucrat at the Central Bureaucracy (lower grade means higher rank), and his filing abilities are the stuff of legend — set to music in the 'Bureaucrat Song.' He required written applications to attend his own tenth birthday party. Before his career in paperwork, Hermes was an Olympic limbo champion whose career ended when a young fan attempted to imitate him and was injured. His archrival is the impossibly suave Barbados Slim. He consistently picks on Zoidberg — cutting his paycheck, attempting to fire him, and generally treating the doctor as subhuman. His most significant hidden act: as Inspector #5 at Mom's Robot Company, he approved baby Bender despite the robot lacking a backup unit, choosing mercy over protocol and giving Bender the gift of life (and mortality). Bender never learned this. Hermes's wife LaBarbara and son Dwight complete his family, though LaBarbara has a suspicious fondness for Barbados Slim.
A stocky Jamaican man with dark skin, a thick neck, and a small amount of hair visible under his ever-present hat. Wears glasses, a short-sleeved white dress shirt with a green necktie, and olive pants. Beneath his clothes, his skeleton is baby-sized — the rest is pure fat.
