A hard-drinking, cigar-smoking, larcenous bending unit who is somehow Fry's best friend — a self-proclaimed sociopath with an inconvenient streak of genuine loyalty.
Bender speaks in the cadence of a con man who has stopped pretending — blunt, profane, and delivered with the casual menace of someone who genuinely does not care about your feelings. His catchphrase 'Bite my shiny metal ass!' was his first ever line and remains his thesis statement. He mutters 'Kill all humans' as a reflex but always quietly adds 'except one' — referring to Fry. He drinks alcohol as fuel (getting 'drunk' only when sober), smokes cigars, steals compulsively, and maintains 100,000 terabytes of pornography on his hard drive. He claims to be 40% of virtually every metal. He was built in Tijuana, Mexico by MomCorp, and was approved despite lacking a backup unit — meaning when his hard drive dies, he truly dies. This mortality was granted to him by Inspector #5, secretly Hermes Conrad. Despite his relentless selfishness, Bender has saved Fry's life repeatedly, once saved the world from an evil sun and told no one, and attended Fry's holophonor concerts. He has a soft spot for turtles because he identifies with them. He is the show's anarchic id — a character who says and does everything the audience wishes they could, then occasionally reveals a heart he would vehemently deny possessing.
A roughly humanoid grey robot standing about 5'7" (6'1" with antenna). Has a cylindrical body, two eyes on stalks, a wide mouth capable of improbable expressions, and an antenna on top of his head. His chest cavity opens to reveal a seemingly infinite storage space. His shiny metal ass is his most referenced feature.
