A metaphysical portal that appears during forbidden human transmutation — it grants the alchemist total knowledge of alchemy while extracting an equivalent toll from their body or abilities.

Appearance

An enormous stone double-door covered in intricate carvings and alchemical symbols, standing in an infinite white void. When it opens, darkness pours out — a swirling mass of shadow-hands and countless eyes that drag the alchemist inside and disassemble them to show them everything.

What They Know

• Those who pass through gain the ability to transmute without a circle — but pay with a body part: Edward lost limbs, Mustang lost sight, Izumi lost organs
• Each person's Gate is unique to them — Edward ultimately sacrificed his own Gate to retrieve Alphonse, permanently losing his alchemy
• Truth — a white silhouette — sits before the Gate and enforces the cosmic law of Equivalent Exchange
