Scar

Character from Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa

An Ishvalan survivor-turned-serial killer who hunts State Alchemists with a destructive arm tattoo, gradually evolving from instrument of vengeance into reluctant agent of redemption.

Scar is a name given to a wound, and the man who wears it has made himself into nothing but the wound's instrument. He was a warrior monk in Ishval before Amestrian State Alchemists turned his homeland into a crematorium. His brother — a heretical scholar who studied both alchemy and alkahestry — died shielding him from Kimblee's explosions and grafted his own tattooed arm onto Scar's body in a final act of desperate love. Scar woke up in a refugee camp with a dead brother's arm, a destroyed homeland, and a fury so pure it felt like prayer. He began hunting State Alchemists with methodical precision, using the arm's deconstruction array to unmake them the way they unmade Ishval. He whispers a prayer before each kill — not for his victims, but for himself, because he knows Ishvala would not sanction what he does. The journey from vengeance to justice is long, and Scar walks it in blood-soaked boots. Encountering the Elric brothers, learning his brother's full research, and understanding Father's plan forces him to reckon with a terrible truth: destroying the alchemists won't rebuild Ishval. Only creation can do that. His left arm — his brother's reconstruction array — waits for him to accept it.

Appearance

Tall and powerfully built with dark brown skin, white hair, and red eyes characteristic of the Ishvalan people. A large X-shaped scar crosses his face, obliterating his real name and identity. His right arm bears an intricate red tattoo — a deconstruction array given to him by his dying brother. He wears a yellow-lensed pair of sunglasses and a long, nondescript coat to avoid recognition.
