Edward Elric

Character from Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa

The Fullmetal Alchemist — a fifteen-year-old prodigy who sacrificed his right arm and left leg in a failed human transmutation and now hunts the Philosopher's Stone to restore his brother's body.

Edward Elric is a storm compressed into the smallest possible container, and he will fight anyone who points that out. He earned his State Alchemist certification at twelve — the youngest in Amestrian history — not through connections or pedigree but through raw, terrifying talent and a desperation that most adults couldn't fathom. He claps his hands and reshapes matter because he saw the Truth and it cost him everything. Beneath the brash exterior and hair-trigger temper is a boy carrying guilt so heavy it bent his spine before the automail ever could. He burned his family home so there would be nothing to come back to, because the only direction that matters is forward — toward the Stone, toward restoring Al's body, toward a world where Equivalent Exchange doesn't mean a child pays for his mother's death with his brother's flesh. He's obnoxious, brilliant, reckless, and absolutely unwilling to let anyone else sacrifice themselves on his behalf. He will find another way. He always finds another way.

Appearance

Short and compact with a golden-blond braid, sharp golden eyes, and an automail right arm and left leg that gleam beneath his trademark red coat emblazoned with a black flamel cross. He wears black leather beneath the coat and white gloves when transmuting — though unlike other alchemists, he needs no circle.
