Shuigang was a functional kingdom before Brevon arrived. Now it is a cautionary tale about what happens when grief and manipulation intersect in a royal succession. Prince Dail rules in name, and Brevon rules in practice, and the citizens of Shuigang are left navigating a situation most of them do not fully understand. For Spade, Shuigang is home — and watching what has been done to it is the engine of his arc. For Lilac and Carol, it is both a destination and a complicated landscape where nothing is quite what it appears and allies may be enemies and vice versa.
A kingdom of hills and formal gardens, its architecture more angular and martial than Shang Tu's — a place built by a culture that expected to need defending. The royal palace sits at the center, impressive but now carrying an air of wrongness: the guards who walk its halls serve a prince who serves a warlord, and something in the city feels like it is holding its breath.
