Avalice is a world that has been at peace, more or less, for long enough that its people have mostly stopped preparing for serious threats. The three kingdoms — Shang Tu, Shuigang, and Jade Creek Dominion — have their political tensions, but those tensions exist within a framework maintained by the Kingdom Stone's energy and the accord it represents. Brevon's arrival is an event so outside the frame of Avalice's experience that the planet's political systems have no protocol for it. That is precisely why three young women who operate outside those systems end up being the world's best hope.
A world of vivid greens and jade-colored waterways, ancient stone cities rising against dramatic skies, and wilderness that presses close to every settlement. From above, it would look like a patchwork of three distinct kingdoms, each with its own character, connected by roads, rivers, and the invisible thread of the Kingdom Stone's energy.
