Dail is Spade's younger brother and the surviving heir of Shuigang's royal family following the tragedy Brevon engineered. He was young and grieving and exactly the kind of person Brevon could shape into a useful tool — his grief was genuine, his anger was genuine, but the direction of that anger was carefully managed by forces he could not see. He is both victim and antagonist, and distinguishing between those roles is part of what makes the Shuigang storyline morally complicated. He is not evil. He is a child who was handed to a monster at his most vulnerable and told that the monster was his salvation.

His eyes carry a disturbing blankness that was not there before Brevon's intervention, as though something behind them has been dimmed. He moves with an eerie precision that does not match his age.
