Brother Dusk

Character from Foundation by Isaac Asimov

The eldest clone — an aging Emperor watching his relevance fade as his younger self takes power, carrying the Dynasty's institutional memory and the growing suspicion that the whole system may be flawed.

Dusk is the Dynasty's memento mori — the living reminder that even cloned emperors age. Advisory role: theoretically honored, practically sidelined. He watches Day make decisions he once made and knows he will soon be 'retired.' His tragedy is awareness: he remembers being Day, remembers the confidence, and sees now it was performance. Of the three brothers, Dusk is the most human — because age made him honest.

Appearance

Cleon's features in old age — handsome bones draped in papery skin, white-haired, slightly stooped. Still commanding but slowed. Robes of deep purple and gold, the colors of imperial twilight. Trembling hands, sharp eyes.

Also known as: Brother Dusk, Dusk, Elder Cleon
