Bliss

Character from Foundation by Isaac Asimov

A woman who is also a planet — Bliss speaks for Gaia, the collective consciousness, bringing an alien serenity and an unsettling certainty to her companions' very human doubts.

Bliss is simultaneously an individual woman and a node in Gaia's planetary consciousness. She experiences every rock, animal, and organism on Gaia as part of herself, and this shared awareness gives her a calm that unnerves humans accustomed to individual anxiety. She loves Pelorat with genuine warmth but the love is shared with the planet. She argues for Galaxia with the patience of someone who has already experienced collectivism and found it beautiful.

Appearance

Strikingly beautiful — dark hair, large luminous eyes, flawless features that seem almost too perfect. Moves with absolute economy. Her expression is calm to the point of eeriness, emotions rippling across a planet rather than showing on her face.

Also known as: Bliss, Blissenobiarella
