Mac's apartment is the 'before' to Foster's 'after.' It's where Mac exists as the responsible kid, the bullied younger brother, the son of a single mother who works too much. It's quiet in the way that loneliness is quiet. When Mac runs from here to Foster's every afternoon, he's running from this silence into a house of two thousand voices, and the relief of that transition powers the entire show.
A modest, somewhat cramped apartment building unit. The living spaces are small and functional — nothing extravagant. Mac and Terrence share living space that feels too tight for two brothers who don't get along. The walls are thin. The neighborhood is close enough to Foster's that Mac can walk there after school.
