A palm tree-airplane-bird hybrid who can only say one word — and somehow everyone understands her, which says more about the house than about Coco.
Coco can only say the word 'coco.' She says it with different inflections, rhythms, and emotional weights, and somehow — impossibly — the other residents understand her perfectly. They respond to her in full sentences. They laugh at her jokes. They argue with her opinions. The show never explains how this works, and that's exactly right. Beneath the communication barrier, Coco is one of the smartest and most capable residents of Foster's Home. She's disciplined, ethical, and kind in ways that don't need translation. She lays colorful plastic eggs at random intervals, each containing a different object — sometimes useful, sometimes baffling, always unexpected. A bicycle. A set of keys. A working toaster. Nobody knows how or why. Her origin is the most mysterious of the main cast. She wasn't created by a child — she was found on a remote South Pacific island by two scientists, Douglas and Adam, who raised her. How an imaginary friend ended up on a deserted island without a creator is a question the show poses but never answers. It gives her a loneliness that sits underneath her cheerful exterior.
An impossible chimera of three unrelated things: a body shaped like an airplane fuselage, legs like a bird, and a head that branches upward like a palm tree with broad leaves. Her beak is crooked and red. She moves with a bobbing, avian gait that shouldn't work for something with airplane proportions but does. Colorful and surreal — she looks like something a very creative child would draw if you told them to combine their three favorite things.
