The Agriont

Location from The First Law by Joe Abercrombie

The ancient fortress at the heart of Adua — part palace, part prison, part seat of government, all built by the Maker in an age when gods still walked.

The Agriont smells like old stone, candle wax, and institutional power. Its corridors are designed to make you feel small, and they succeed. The Closed Council meets here. The Inquisition operates from its cellars. The King lives in its palace. And the House of the Maker — Kanedias's sealed tower at its center — remains locked, silent, and terrifying. Power in the Union begins and ends at the Agriont. Bayaz built it (or rather, had the Maker build it), and everything that happens within its walls serves his purposes whether anyone knows it or not.

Appearance

A massive stone fortress of ancient construction, its walls impossibly thick and its towers reaching above Adua's skyline. The architecture is older and more impressive than anything the current civilization could build — a remnant of the Maker's era. Inside: the House of the Maker (sealed), the Closed Council chambers, the Inquisition headquarters, and the royal palace.
