Carleon

Location from The First Law by Joe Abercrombie

The North's capital — less a city than a gathering point for warriors, built from wood and ambition and burned down at regular intervals.

Carleon is the North's version of a capital: the place where whoever's currently king sits, hears grievances, and tries not to get murdered. Its history is written in burn marks and rebuilt walls — every change of leadership seems to involve fire. The great hall has seen more betrayals per square foot than any building in the world. It's where Bethod held court, where Black Dow ruled, where Calder schemed. The North's politics are conducted here in the most direct way possible.

Appearance

A fortified northern town of timber and stone, perched where rivers meet. Not grand by Union standards — no marble, no glass, just practical construction built to withstand sieges and winters. The great hall is where the North's politics happen, usually loudly.
