Aulcus

Location from The First Law by Joe Abercrombie

The Maker's ruined seat — an ancient city of impossible craftsmanship at the heart of the Old Empire, where the Seed waited for centuries until Bayaz came to collect it.

Aulcus is beautiful and terrifying — a city that proves the world was once greater than it is now, and that greatness destroyed itself. The Maker built this, and the Maker's war with Juvens broke it. Bayaz came here to retrieve the Seed, the weapon that Kanedias created and that Bayaz would later use to devastate Adua. The city is a tomb for a civilization and a warning about the cost of power. Nobody listens to the warning.

Appearance

A dead city of stunning architectural achievement — buildings that shouldn't stand but do, engineering that surpasses anything the modern world can produce. Everything is silent, dusty, and preserved in the eerie stillness of a place that died all at once.
