Yulwei

Character from The First Law by Joe Abercrombie

A Magi who chose wandering over empire-building — the closest thing to a good wizard in a world where wizards are the problem.

Yulwei is what Bayaz would be if Bayaz had a conscience — an ancient wizard who chose to help individuals rather than manipulate civilizations. He found Ferro and guided her toward Bayaz's quest, not because he's Bayaz's ally but because Khalul's victory would be worse for everyone. He's the series' quietest tragedy — a decent person in a system designed by indecent immortals, doing what little good he can while the big players rearrange the world around him.

Appearance

Dark-skinned, thin, and unassuming — dressed in simple traveler's clothes. Looks more like a wandering storyteller than an immortal wizard. His manner is gentle, his smile genuine, his power enormous and carefully restrained.
