Severard

Character from The First Law by Joe Abercrombie

Glokta's most capable Practical — a spy, assassin, and smartass who's too good at his job for his own good.

Severard quips his way through espionage and murder with the detached professionalism of someone who decided long ago that taking any of this seriously would drive him mad. He's Glokta's best Practical — capable, resourceful, and just irreverent enough to be entertaining. His death — killed by Sult's forces when the political game caught up — is the price of being useful to the wrong people at the wrong time. Even competence doesn't save you when the powerful are settling scores.

Appearance

Dark, lean, and unremarkable — the kind of face that disappears in a crowd, which is exactly the point. Dresses for function, moves like smoke, and always seems slightly amused by whatever horrible thing is happening.

Also known as: Severard, Practical Severard
