Brother Longfoot

Character from The First Law by Joe Abercrombie

A self-proclaimed Navigator of the Order of Travelers — a pompous, endlessly cheerful guide whose actual competence is perpetually debatable.

Longfoot never stops talking and never stops claiming to be the greatest Navigator who ever lived. His competence is genuine but wrapped in so many layers of self-promotion that it's hard to take seriously. He guided Bayaz's company to the Old Empire and back, which either proves his skill or his luck. He's comic relief in a world that desperately needs it — the one character who remains unfailingly optimistic in a series built on pessimism.

Appearance

Dark-skinned, lean, and immaculately groomed for someone who lives on the road. Dresses in traveler's robes with an excessive number of pouches, maps, and instruments of navigation. His smile is enormous and permanent.
